Dans les pays anglo-saxons, les étudiants ont ce qu'on appelle une "reading week" (je pense qu'à la fac en France aussi il y a une équivalence mais pas dans ma super école ...)
Cette semaine est normalement consacrée à la préparation des
essays : une semaine de bibliothèque. Mais bon, la plupart des étudiants rentrent chez eux ou partent quelques jours en vacances (notre étage était pratiquement vide). Etant étudiante en business, je n'ai eu qu'une seule matière qui était en "reading week" : Managing organisations car elle fait partie des "humanités" (ne me demandez pas pourquoi).
Mais n'ayant pas cours le lundi et le mardi matin, nous avons décidé d'aller quelques jours à Londres.
Pour aller à Londres, 2 solutions:
soit bus + train : 2h environ mais assez cher (environ 20 livres)
soit bus depuis l'université : 3h et si on s'y prend assez à l'avance 10 livres aller-retour
In english-speaking countries, students have what we call a "reading week" (they may have the same thing in public universities in France but not in mine...)
This week is supposed to be for preparing essays: a week at the library.
But most of the student come home or go on holidays (our floor was almost empty). Being a student in business, I only had one module in "reading week": Managing Organisations because it was part of "Humanities" don't ask me why. But I don't have class on Monday and Tuesday morning, so we have decided to go to London.
To go to London , 2 solutions:
either bus + train : 2 hours but more expensive (20 pounds return)
either bus from campus: 3 hours and cheap ticket around 10 pounds
Nous avons donc choisi l'option bus à l'aller (il n'y en a qu'un à 7h50 par contre) et train au retour car il n'y avait pas de bus pour Warwick le matin (uniquement le soir).
Les auberges de jeunesse et les hotels sont très chers à Londres, surtout lorsque l'on s'y prend 1 semaine à l'avance comme nous. Nous étions 4 et voulions une chambre ensemble. La plupart des auberges de jeunesse coutaient environ 20-25 livres la nuit par personne c'est à dire 30 euros.
Par chance, nous en avons trouvé une à 12 livres la nuit mais elle était assez excentrée.
En arrivant à la station de Londres, nous avons découvert... que notre station était fermée pour travaux pendant tout le week-end ! Mais bon il y avait des bus assez souvent même si les trajets étaient beaucoup plus long.
Arrivées là-bas, la plupart des clients et les gérants de l'auberge étaient français. J'ai du faire la traductrice ... à LONDRES !

Hostels and hotels are really expensive in London, especially when you want to book one week earlier like us. We were 4 and wanted our own room. Most of the hostels were around 20-25 pounds per person, per night.
Luckily, we found one for 12 pounds per night but it was pretty far from the city centre.
When we got to London station, we realized that... our station was closed for the weekend because of works. But there was bus even if the journey was much more longer.
We arrived there, and discovered that most of the clients and the owners of the hostel were french! I had to do the translation ... in London!

Pour ceux qui n'y sont jamais allé, c'est un quartier très sympa de Londres avec une grande rue passante: Portobello Road. C'est là que ce déroule d'ailleurs le film "Coup de Foudre à Notting Hill".
On y trouve un immense marché qui vend à peu près tout et n'importe quoi: des vêtements, des bijoux, des crêpes, de la vaisselle, des souvenirs et même de la tartiflette !
For those who have never been there, it's a really nice borough of London with a big street: Portobello Road. It's were they shoot the movie "Notting Hill".
We can find a huge market where they sell pretty much everything: clothes, jewelry, crepes, crockery, souvenirs and even french tartiflette !

Le soir, avaient lieu les commémorations du "Guy Fawkes Night". Le 5 novembre 1605, un complot catholique a voulu faire exploser le parlement de Westminster, en la présence du roi protestant Jacques 1er. On commémore chaque année l'échec de cet attentat.
Cette année, le 5 novembre étant un lundi, les célébrations ont commencé le samedi soir. Il s'agit principalement de feux d'artifice et de feux de joie. Nous sommes allés à Blackheath, en banlieue de Londres.
Il y avait des centaines de milliers de personnes, c'était très impressionnant. Ils ont commencé vers 20h.
On the evening, was the commemorations of "Guy Fawkes Night". The 5th of November 1605, a catholic plot tried to blow out the parliament of Westminster with the protestant king Jack the 1st inside. We commemorate every year the failure of this attack.
This year, the 5th of november being a monday, celebrations started on the saturday night. It's fireworks and bonfire especially. We went to Blackheath, one of London's suburb.
There were hundred thousands of people. It was really impressive. They started at 8pm.

Par contre, impossible de trouver un endroit où manger après, apparemment tous les londoniens avaient la même idée. Nous avons du retourner dans le centre de Londres pour trouver un restaurant pas trop bondé. Le choix s'est porté sur Pizza Express, une chaine de pizzeria anglaise. Il est assez difficile de manger pour pas trop cher à Londres. Les pizzas étaient quelconques mais nous en avons eu pour moins de 10 euros ce qui est déjà bien.
But, impossible to find a place to eat afterwards, apparently every Londoners had the same idea. We had to go back to the city center to find a not so crowded restaurant. We choose Pizza express, a brand of english pizzeria. It's difficult to find a cheap place to eat in London. Pizza were okay but it was less than 10 pounds.
